Jamaican cleared of drug trafficking charges in Turks & Caicos

A Jamaican, charged with drug trafficking, was freed of the charges last week after a court in the Turks & Caicos Islands found insufficient evidence for trial.

The accused, Errol Williams, appeared in court on April 8.

He was charged with possession of controlled drugs and possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply.

Following written submissions by his attorney, Sheena Mair, the Chief Justice dismissed the charges against the Jamaican.

Mr Williams, who was also charged with illegal entry, was handed over to immigration authorities.

The 54 year old was arrested in November last year after the police raided a house where he was residing and seized a large quantity of ganja.
