Jamaican students in Cuba yet to receive care packages

More than a month after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shipped care packages to Jamaican medical students in Cuba, they are yet to receive the items.

A statement from the ministry says the shipment, which includes the 100 care packages and 152 personal care items, arrived in Cuba on November 2.

The 40 foot container also contains the students' suitcases, packages, and their medical equipment, supplies being donated to the Government and people of  Cuba by Jamaica, and essential items for use by the Jamaican Embassy.

Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith says the customs broker in Cuba on Thursday confirmed that by early next week, the items will be released for distribution.

The Foreign Minister says the Jamaican Embassy in Cuba and the Consular Affairs Department have made efforts over the past few months, to meet Cuba's requirements at every stage of the process.
