There's no word yet on the outcome of a search and rescue mission for several Jamaicans and Haitians reportedly missing at sea near the Bahamas.
Members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Royal Bahamas Police Marine Division and the US Coast Guard continued operations yesterday to locate the individuals.
Bahamian police received an alert early Saturday that a 27 foot vessel was taking in water nine miles south of Chub Cay in the Berry Islands.
Cops later found the vessel partially submerged with several individuals in the water clinging to the vessel.
Twelve persons were rescued while efforts continued to find the other persons.
The rescued migrants were transported to a facility in Nassau to be processed and checked by medical personnel.
Police and immigration officials will then carry out further processing and investigation.
Detained in Florida
In a separate incident, a Jamaican was among 18 illegal immigrants detained after their boat landed in Florida on Friday.
Haitians and Bahamians were also in the twin-engine boat which arrived ashore on Hillsboro Beach.
The 18 individuals are being processed by immigration personnel and will be deported.
