The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) is warning that normality cannot be guaranteed in the public sector after Monday if the Ministry of Finance does not provide all documents relating to the Compensation Review.
In a news release on Friday evening, the Confederation warned that the situation could escalate if a meeting is not held in two weeks to begin the process of finalising the review.
It expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke has been communicating the government's position concerning the review.
JCTU President Helene Davis-Whyte, in a follow-up interview with Radio Jamaica News, declared that this has sent the wrong signal to public sector trade unions.
She said the Confederation did secure a meeting with the ministry in late January, in response to its request for dialogue, but added that since then the unions have been "dissatisfied with the information that has been presented to us."
That information, she said, "does not allow us to do a proper analysis to put in place any kind of position in respect of the report and the recommendations of the consultant."
She said there has been no response from the Ministry of Finance to the JCTU's latest effort to have dialogue on the matter, having written to the ministry in the last week of March.
