Jean-Ann Panton questioned in SSL fraud probe

Former manager at Stocks and Securities Limited, Jean-Ann Panton, was taken into custody today for questioning by detectives from the Financial Investigation Division and the Fraud Squad.
 
Ms Panton was questioned for several hours about her role in the massive fraud uncovered at the investment firm.
 
There is no word yet on whether charges have been laid against the former wealth advisor.
 
More than J$2 billion is alleged to have been stolen from the accounts of 40 investors at SSL over a 12-year period.
 
Sprint legend Usain Bolt reported that he was fleeced of more than US$12 million in the scam.
 
Radio Jamaica News was informed that directors of the investment entity have also been questioned by detectives.
 
The questioning of Ms Panton today followed raids last month at premises occupied by her.
 
Investigators seized documents and electronic devices in the operations.
 
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been assisting the local police in the probe.
