JPS and NWU impasse ends as parties sign deal

By Clinton McGregor

The impasse between the Management of the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) and the National Workers Union (NWU), representing some JPS employees, has come to an end.

This comes after the parties signed off on a new agreement on Thursday afternoon, at the Ministry of Labour.

The ministry had called in the parties to a meeting earlier this week after the union served a 72-hour strike notice on the light and power company.

The union had accused the power company of reneging on an agreement to make the jobs of 30 contract workers permanent.
