One man was shot dead and a firearm seized Wednesday
night following a reported gun battle between the police and gunmen in
Linstead, St. Catherine.
The dead man has been identified as 23-year-old Ian Cameron otherwise called "Rusty" of Linstead.
It is reported that at about eight o'clock, the police were on patrol along Washington Drive in Rosehall District, Linstead, when they spotted two men.
It is reported that on seeing the cops, the men pulled guns and opened fire.
The fire was returned and Mr. Cameron was shot.
The other man escaped.
A homemade gun with one live round was reportedly taken from him.
He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
However, relatives of the dead man have questioned the shooting.
They claim the cops should have arrested Mr. Cameron if he was found in possession of a gun.
