Principal of May Pen Primary School in Clarendon Paul Scott is speaking out following an incident at the institution on Monday morning.
It was reported that gates to the school were padlocked and placards tied to it as anger about several unresolved issues at the institution boiled over.
No one has claimed responsibility for the action.
Speaking on RJR's Hotline Monday afternoon, Mr. Scott said he got information on Friday that a protest was being planned, which lead him to alert the relevant authorities, including the police. As a result, he said police was able to diffuse the attempted protest from about 4:30 a.m.
Mr. Scott said he is not aware of any legitimate reason for protest action to be taken at the school and he rebutted claims of serious and long-standing issues affecting the institution.
Fitz Mattis, Chairman of the school, earlier on Monday said there was a breakdown in communication at the school as persons have complained about how the principal interacts with some members of staff and parents.
But the principal has insisted that there is "nothing untoward" happening at the school.
He said the problem is being fuelled by the actions of just one individual whose "job functions and responsibilities are not being executed." That individual, he asserted, "is stopping at no cost to disrupt the process of striving for excellence."
But Mr. Scott said the issue is being dealt with internally.
A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday with the Ministry of Education’s Regional Office.
