'Misunderstanding': Fiancé of Belize opposition leader withdraws assault report against him

The fiancé of Belize's Opposition Leader, Patrick Faber, says a misunderstanding led to the police issuing a warrant for his arrest following a report being made to the Domestic Violence Unit.

Police Commissioner Chester Williams told reporters that Dr. Shanika Arnold visited the Unit where she made a complaint against Mr. Faber.

He said Dr. Arnold alleged that Mr. Faber damaged her laptop computer and assaulted her as she was about to leave their home.

However, on Thursday Dr. Arnold said she had formally withdrawn her report.

On Thursday night, she took to social media, describing the situation as a misunderstanding and that it was the couple's intent to resolve the matter privately.
