Mixed reactions to CXC delay

Jamal Hall, President of the National Secondary Students' Council

There are mixed reactions from students and parents to Wednesday's announcement of a three-week push back to the start of this year's Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams.

The tests, which were initially to commence on May 2, will instead begin on May 23.

Jamal Hall, President of the National Secondary Students' Council, told Radio Jamaica News that some students are satisfied with the additional time.

However, he revealed that there are students and parents who are disappointed about the decision.

"You have those students who did say, of course, that they were prepared for the exams, but you also had those students who were not prepared but had given up hope and just wanted to get exams out of the way so that they could start to process their future," he disclosed.

Apart from the mixed views regarding the new start of the exams, there are also some concerns about the timeline when the test results will be released and whether it will affect the matriculation of students seeking to attend university.

CXC has said it hopes the results can be released either in late August or early September.
