With four weeks left in the year, the latest crime data show Jamaica has recorded 1,332 homicides since January 1.
This is a 10 per cent increase from the 1,213 murders reported during the same period last year.
Eleven of the 19 police divisions recorded an increase in murders and shootings.
The St. Andrew South Division headed the list with 156 homicides.
It was followed by St. James with 143, St. Catherine South with 127 and Westmoreland at 114.
Westmoreland has seen a 54 per cent spike in murders and 51 per cent increase in shootings.
More weapons seized
But the security forces have seized more illegal firearms and ammunition this year.
There have been 640 gun seizures, up from 560 during the same period last year.
Forty-five assault rifles, 472 pistols, 14 submachine guns and 67 revolvers were among the weapons seized.
The security forces also recovered 8,993 assorted rounds of ammunition.
The figure was at 8,200 during the same period in 2020.
