Ten weeks after the passage of Hurricane Beryl battered Munro College in St. Elizabeth, students are returning to the classroom as contractors work feverishly to repair the damage.

Acting principal Garsia Rankine Powell says orientation and registration got off to a smooth start at the institution Sunday evening.

Of the 35 buildings on the campus, 31 suffered varying degrees of damage forcing a delayed start to the new school year.

The school reopened on Monday, September 9.

"We had all our first formers and new students coming in for orientation and registration on Sunday, September 8. Those students would have stayed over. They left...Wednesday about midday," said Mrs. Rankine Powell, who revealed that both boarders and commuting students stayed on campus during that time.

The acting principal said major structural repairs are almost complete; the building that suffered the most extensive damage in the hurricane was able to be used for first form orientation.

Contractors are still at the school working to finish repairs.
