A nine-month-old baby was among six people shot on Wednesday night in Norwood, St. James.
Two men died in the attack. They are 31-year-old shopkeeper Delano Christie and 26-year-old Jordain Brown, both of Norwood addresses.
Three men and the child are in hospital in serious condition.
It's reported that about 8:15 p.m. patrons were on Hacca Street, at a shop operated by Mr. Christie, when they were pounced upon by two armed men.
The men opened fire at the group.
When the shooting subsided, it was discovered that six people had been hit.
A resident of Norwood, who spoke with Radio Jamaica News, said he is fearful of the escalating violence in the area.
He called for increased police presence in the community, adding that "if police can socialise with everybody, it woulda more better fi wi right now".
A State of Public Emergency was imposed in St. James earlier this week.
But while the resident welcomed the enhanced security measure, he does not believe the state of emergency will make much of a difference.
"It good enuh, but mi nuh think it a duh nothing because police did deh right deh suh and shooting gwaan inna one next lane right deh suh. Suh, mi nuh know. We haffi try sup'm else. Di people dem inna di community, we haffi duh sup'm," he suggested.
