Opposition calls for meeting of National Disaster Risk Management Council

Mark Golding

The Parliamentary Opposition is calling for an urgent meeting of the National Disaster Risk Management Council to develop a plan to combat the surge in COVID-19 cases in Jamaica.

The Council is chaired by Prime Minister Andrew Holness.

Opposition Leader Mark Golding on Friday expressed concern that the Council has not met since he was elected leader of the opposition party last November.

"On each occasion that I've spoken publicly since the pandemic, I've underscored the need for an all-hands on deck national response to the COVID crisis. This is a time for cooperation among all Jamaicans, for coming together to help get our country get out of this disaster in the true Jamaican spirit," he urged.

He was speaking Friday at a virtual media briefing.
