PAAC to examine contract irregularities at Clarendon Alumina Production

PAAC Chairman Mikael Phillips

Parliament's Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC) is set to examine irregularities in the award of contracts at Clarendon Alumina Production (CAP).

This follows the resignation of the chairman, Norman Reid, over attempts to extend a multi-million dollar consultancy contract with an overseas company, CCPA Capital Partners.

PAAC Chairman Mikael Phillips told Radio Jamaica News the matter has caught the attention of the committee and a date will be set for that body to scrutinise the operations of CAP.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has described media reports concerning the contract issue as troubling.

He has instructed Mining Minister Robert Montague to provide a report.

CAP, which co-owns the Jamalco alumina refinery with General Alumina Jamaica, had engaged CCPA Capital Partners under a project to incorporate Jamalco.
