Patricia Sinclair McCalla returned as chairman of PSC

By Racquel Porter

Former senior civil servant Patricia Sinclair McCalla has been returned as Chairman of the Public Service Commission, the state body responsible for the appointment of some of the top positions in Government.

The status of the PSC was raised on Sunday by Opposition Leader Mark Golding who questioned the lack of a new commission that would appoint an acting Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Office of the Services Commissions on Monday confirmed the appointment of the new commission after the tenure of the previous one expired on March 31.

The three other members are Bishop Herro Blair, ageing expert Professor Denise Eldemire-Shearer, both from the previous commission, and attorney-at-law and employment law specialist Khadrea Folkes.

They will hold office for three years.

Although the appointments were confirmed over the weekend, they have been made effective as of April 1.

The PSC is a constitutional body charged with the responsibility of recommending the appointment, removal and exercise of disciplinary control regarding selected public officers.
