Peace advocate calls for greater focus on social intervention programmes in Jamaica

A founding member of Jamaica Advocate for Peace and Community Development, Milton Tomlinson, says violence in schools is a signal that there needs to be greater focus on social intervention programmes in communities across Jamaica.

His comments follows the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old student Michion Campbell, a female student of Kingston Technical High on Thursday.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News last night, Mr Tomlinson said unless immediate steps are taken to address violence in communities, the country can expect more violence in schools.

He says students are grappling with trauma which affects their behaviour so Mr Tomlinson is calling for there to be behavioral specialists in schools.
