Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) could be put on contracts which would only be renewed based on their performance.

This is one of the plans outlined in the National Consensus on Crime signed by the government, opposition and stakeholder groups on Monday.

The document also says any officer found guilty of involvement in corruption or facilitating criminal activity will be removed from their posts and criminal charges could be laid.

Under the consensus, the parties have also agreed to establishment of a strong Internal Affairs Division to screen and monitor police officers.

In a response Monday night, the Police Federation said it had no objection to the five year contract, under which members of the JCF are currently employed, being renewed based on performance.

"The Police Federation is on board with the whole transformation. We believe that performance based contracts are best for force efficiency and for us to truly be a force for good, and therefore, in the interest of transformation and greater efficiency, certainly, we support performance based contracts," said Sergeant Patrae Rowe, Chairman of the Police Federation.
