PNP promising improved emergency health services

Dr Alfred Dawes, Opposition Spokesman on Health, has promised that he will see to the improvement of emergency health services in Jamaica, if he becomes the next health minister.

Dr Dawes, speaking at Sunday night's People's National Party divisional meeting in Bellefield, Manchester, said the country needs more ambulances.

He said each year, more than seven thousand people in Jamaica suffer from stroke.

He added that the lack of a sufficient number of ambulances at health facilities sometimes results in a delay in the treatment of stroke patients.

Dr Dawes, slated to contest the next parliamentary election on the PNP's ticket for the constituency of St. Catherine South Eastern, served notice that if that PNP forms the next  government, it will be reviewing how the Ministry of Health awards contracts to companies.

He also declared that there will be a reduction in the marketing budget of the Ministry of Health under a PNP government.
