Public and private sectors entities are being urged to have their sexual harassment workplace policies in place by the June 30 deadline in keeping with the legislation.

The sexual harassment law came into effect on July 3 last year.

Employers are required to issue a policy statement in writing and bring it to the attention of workers and clients within 12 months of the law coming into operation.

Minister with responsibility for Gender Affairs Olivia Grange says it is imperative that workplaces develop their sexual harassment policies.

"Too many people, men and women, have been suffering in silence and put up with sexual harassment to keep the 'likkle' work. Well, we are setting things right and we'll use this law to liberate those who are enduring sexual harassment," she said.

Ms. Grange, who was speaking at the opening of pharmaceutical distributor RA Williams' new innovative office and temperature-controlled storage facility in Spanish Town on Wednesday, urged that business and others to "start off on the right foot" to prevent sexual harassment issues in the workplace.
