Dr Ivelaw Griffith
Dr Ivelaw Griffith, a leading expert on Caribbean security, is urging the Jamaican Government to make use of what he regards as a golden opportunity to receive more help from the United States to tackle the issue of gun violence.
Professor Griffith believes Jamaica should ride the momentum of its US Ambassador who's Jamaican, as well as recent promises made by US representatives during a recent meeting with Caribbean security officials.
The issue of US firearms being smuggled and used in Jamaica is well known and documented.
It was recently discussed at the Council for National Security and Law Enforcement 2022 meeting.
US representatives at this event promised greater support in tackling the flow of illegal guns into Jamaica from the United States.
Professor Griffith, speaking Monday on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines, said Jamaica is now in a good position to make sure these promises are fulfilled.
