September wait for details on Johnson Smith's financing for Commonwealth campaign

Leader of Government Business Ed Bartlett responding to Opposition MP Julian Robinson

Jamaica will have to wait until September to hear details of the financing of Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith's failed campaign for Commonwealth Secretary General after Prime Minister Andrew Holness missed Tuesday's deadline to respond to questions tabled by the Parliamentary Opposition.

The questions were tabled on June 28 by MP Julian Robinson for the Prime Minister to provide answers within 21 days.

During Tuesday's sitting of the House of Representatives, Mr. Robinson sought an update on the responses, noting that "they are overdue and...today [Tuesday] is the last sitting before the summer recess".

Leader of Government Business Edmund Bartlett responded, saying the questions will be answered at the "very next sitting of the House".

Mr. Robinson has asked for the total cost for Mrs Johnson Smith's campaign, airfare, accommodation, marketing and communication and whether foreign entities helped to fund it.

In addition, the Prime Minister has been asked to provide details on the cost for all persons who travelled to Rwanda for the Commonwealth Heads of  Government Meeting and how those costs were covered.
