Robert Gordon, Principal of Bickersteth Primary and Infant School

A 29-year-old woman is in police custody after the body of her seven-year-old son was found on Tuesday morning at her home in Johnson Common, Bickersteth, St. James.

The child's body had a wound to the head.

Radio Jamaica News was told that the woman left her son, Aiden Rose, at home about 2 p.m. Monday and went to Montego Bay.

It's reported that she returned about 45 minutes later but did not see the child.

Aiden's body was found by neighbours under a tree in bushes in his yard about 6:30 Tuesday morning.

His mother was later detained.

Investigators have collected blood samples from the scene and are awaiting an autopsy report.

Aiden was a grade one student at Bickersteth Primary and Infant School.

Principal Robert Gordon expressed regret at the news of his death, noting that "he was a student who had a lot of potential and [was] very active in class".
