Some private health facilities not interested in becoming vaccination sites

Health & Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton

Only a few private medical facilities have responded favorably to the invitation of the government to become COVID-19 vaccination sites.

As part of  efforts to significantly increase the vaccination rate, the Ministry of Health & Wellness had asked the operators of these private facilities to assist with the inoculation programme.

Health & Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton told Radio Jamaica News that  meetings have been held with a number of  private hospitals to discuss whether they would be interested in participating in the programme.

"Not all of them want to be engaged; it's not a lot of people (facilities)offering themselves," he stressed.

Nevertheless, he said it was important to have the discussions with those which have the requisite infrastructure, seeing to the improvement of the facilities where necessary, such as adding "particular refrigeration to store that kind of thing (the vaccine)".

The Health Ministry has issued a request for quotation from pharmacies, hospitals, health centres and doctors' offices to be vaccination access points.
