Southern parishes remain under Flash Flood Watch

Low-lying and flood-prone sections of St. Thomas, Kingston & St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland remain under a Flash Flood Watch.

The Meteorological Service says the watch will remain in effect until midday today.

It says the broad trough across the western Caribbean will linger throughout the weekend and will continue to generate unstable weather conditions across the region, including Jamaica.

Observational data and satellite imagery did indicate a reduction in moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across southern parishes of Jamaica throughout Friday, but due to the extended period of rainfall, and the high ground saturation, flooding and landslides are likely.

The forecast is for cloudy conditions with periods of light to moderate showers and thunderstorms across sections of southern and north-western parishes into Saturday.
