St. Lucia PM cautions banks against going cashless

St. Lucia's Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre says he will seek regional support against moves by banks operating in the Caribbean to establish entirely cashless transactions.

Pierre told legislators that an unnamed bank in St. Lucia had indicated its intention to do this.

The St. Lucia Prime Minister expressed concern for elderly residents of rural areas who would not be able to access their cash, deposited in these financial institutions.

Mr. Pierre said he will be raising the matter with finance ministers across the region, and that he'll be urging the bank to re-examine the policy.
