Students barred from Godfrey Stewart High for not adhering to uniform policy

Parents whose children were this morning barred from attending Godfrey Stewart High School in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland for failing to comply with its uniform policy, are calling for the Ministry of Education's intervention.

The students were barred from entering the compound reportedly due to the girls' uniform skirts being in breach of new stipulations that the garment should reach down to the socks, while some boys were not allowed to enter because their pants were deemed unfit.

One of the parents, Marie Kerr, told Radio Jamaica News she is especially upset because the uniforms being worn by her daughter were provided by the school.

She said she collected one in March and the other in August but was not told there was a change in any stipulation.

The parent questioned why the school would provide uniforms, change the rules, then fail to "tell her that it's not appropriate" before the start of school, so they could make the necessary adjustments or get new uniforms made.
