Suspected drunk driver fatally shot by police in Manchester

By Nakinskie Robinson

The Independent Commission of Investigations is probing an incident in which a suspected drunk driver was fatally shot after he reportedly attempted to use his vehicle to run over members of a police team in Manchester around 8 p.m.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Kemar Clarke, a mason of Lancaster district.

The incident occurred near the Winston Jones High School in South Manchester on Wednesday night.

Reports indicate that Mr. Clarke, who appeared drunk, got into an altercation with several persons following an event at the school.

In a rage, he used his car to mow down a 25-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy.

He also damaged two motorcycles in the process.

It's reported that the police tried to stop Mr. Clarke as he attempted to flee the scene.

But, in response, Mr. Clarke threateningly drove the vehicle towards the officers, forcing an off-duty policeman to take evasive action, shooting him in the process.

Residents on Thursday morning mounted several roadblocks, decrying the fatal incident.

But the roadblocks were cleared shortly after.
