TAJ taking steps to avert shortage of license plates

In the wake of  a shortage of  motor vehicle licence plates, Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is taking steps to prevent a recurrence.

With vehicle sales at a near standstill, Director of  Communication at TAJ, Meris Haughton, disclosed on Wednesday that the agency is in discussion with its suppliers in order to stockpile licence plates.

Ms Haughton, speaking on RJR's Beyond the Headlines, explained that a four-week delay in delivery of raw material to overseas suppliers, coupled with increased demand for licence plates resulted in the shortage.

TAJ orders an average four thousand plates monthly, and will be doubling that amount.

Yesterday, TAJ distributed 500 plates to tax collectorates to ease the shortage. The situation is expected to be fully remedied by mid-August.
