A resident of Sandy Bank in St. Elizabeth
A teacher was shot dead on Tuesday morning in front of her colleagues and students at Sandy Bank Infant School in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth.
She has been identified as 26-year-old Chanel Smith.
It's reported that two men dressed in hooded sweaters and masks were parked at the school gate pretending to repair their motorcycle.
Eyewitnesses say one of the men pulled a firearm and shot Miss Smith as she approached the gate about 7:50 a.m.
She was pronounced dead at hospital.
Miss Smith's killing has left the Sandy Bank community in shock.
Residents described the teacher as humble, and told Radio Jamaica News they were saddened at her death and the manner in which it occurred.
Eight spent shells were recovered at the scene.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that Miss Smith had been slated to leave Jamaica later this month.
