The Bahamas: Gov't signs agreement with BUT to provide salary increases and expanded health insurance coverage

The government has signed an agreement with the Bahamas Union of Teachers (BUT) providing for salary and increment increases as well as expanded health insurance coverage.

The last agreement expired on June 30, 2018, and while BUT president, Belinda Wilson, welcomed the new accord, she said the retention bonus is insufficient.

A three-year agreement from 2022 to 2025 was signed following the signing ceremony at the Office of the Prime Minister.

Education Minister, Glenys Hanna Martin, welcomed the agreement, saying teachers are critical stakeholders in national development, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic.
