Three police killings in Spanish Town in less than 24 hours

A man was fatally shot by the police last evening in Spanish Town St Catherine.

This brings to three the number of fatal shootings in the Old Capital in less than 24 hours.

The dead man has been identified as Charles McDonald, otherwise called Chups, of Jones Avenue, Shelter Rock.

It's reported that about 2 p.m., a police team went on an operation in Shelter Rock, Spanish Town, and encountered McDonald, who engaged them in a shootout.

During the exchange of fire, McDonald was hit. He was later pronounced dead at Spanish Town Hospital.

The police say they seized a handgun in the incident.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has commenced a probe in relation to this latest incident, having already begun investigating the first two shootings.

The other two deceased men have been identified as 43 year old, Sheldon Walters and 37 year old, Joseph Campbell.

INDECOM says its activities will include a risk assessment of each area due to the tension and road blocks within the parish, to ensure the safety of its response teams.

The agency says it was not informed of a body-worn camera being issued, assigned or used, in any of the incidents.

INDECOM is appealing to any person who witnessed any of the three fatal shootings, to contact the office of the Commission at 876-968-1932.
