Dancehall entertainer Tommy Lee Sparta has been released from prison.

The entertainer was released Thursday after serving more than two years of his three-year prison sentence for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He was released early for good behaviour.

His attorney, Donahue Martin, confirmed his release to Radio Jamaica News, but said the artiste is "asking for privacy in the coming days and weeks as he reconnects with his family and friends".

On December 14 2020, Tommy Lee— whose given name is Leroy Russell — was arrested after a vehicle in which he was travelling was intercepted by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The men in the vehicle were searched and a 9 millimetre Glock pistol, with an extended magazine containing 18 rounds of ammunition, was found in the dancehall artiste's waistband.

The artiste, who was facing a 15-year prison sentence, pleaded guilty and was given a lesser sentence of three years.
