T&T: SSA report reveals more than 11,500 illegal firearms in the country

Fitzgerald Hinds, Minister of National Security in Trinidad and Tobago, said an analysis from the Strategic Services Agency (SSA) has determined there are approximately 12,000 illegal firearms in the twin-island republic.

Mr. Hinds stated that the matter is being handled urgently because firearms are used in 87 per cent of T&T murders.

He argued that the focus has to be on these illegal weapons, and added that the police understand how important that is.

Hinds said a gun-retrieval exercise is ongoing by the TTPS.
