Two persons detained for fraudulent sale of lands near Clifton

Radio Jamaica News has been informed that two persons have been detained in relation to the fraudulent sale of lands near Clifton in St Catherine.

The two are expected to be questioned this week.

The issue of fraudulent sale of lands gained national attention earlier this month when Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced the October 6 demolition of illegal structures on that section of the former Bernard Lodge sugar estate.

Mr Holness said a criminal gang had captured lands near Clifton and was re-selling the lots.

He later said he has asked the Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency to conduct a probe into the sale of the lands.

The Prime Minister said he was also looking to expand the probe island-wide, and to uncover whether political or government officials were involved in these fraudulent sales.
