It remains unclear whether the Integrity Commission is in fact carrying out an investigation of the Airport Authority of Jamaica's questionable purchase of shares in First Rock Capital Holdings.
Transport Minister Robert Montague refused to answer questions regarding the purchase during Tuesday's sitting of the House of Representatives, claiming that the Commission was carrying out a probe and he wanted to wait until that process is complete.
But in a media release on Wednesday afternoon, Justice Seymour Panton, Chairman of the Integrity Commission, pointed out that the law forbids the body from making any public statements on the initiation or conduct of any investigation.
He explained that this means that no one - not even parliamentarians - can confirm or deny whether an investigation is taking place until a report is tabled.
Julian Robinson, Opposition Spokesman on Finance and Member of Parliament for St. Andrew South Eastern, who had tabled the questions for the Transport Minister in Parliament, said he has not ruled out exploring legal options to resolve Tuesday's refusal by Minister Montague to answer questions about the purchase.
