Dr. Melody Ennis, Director of Family Health Services in the Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health continues to insist its vaccination appointment system works.
However, Dr. Melody Ennis, Director of Family Health Services in Health Ministry, says persons without an appointment will not be turned away.
Dr. Ennis has blamed the uncontrolled turnout of persons at vaccination sites for many leaving without getting inoculated against the coronavirus.
The ministry official was responding to complaints of long wait times at venues such as the National Arena on some days, while on other days, the ministry has had to appeal for Jamaicans to go to empty centres.
"Look at week before last Monday. We had like 6,000 persons coming down on the Arena, which, of course, irrespective of how you plan, that number is a bit much, and we had to close the gate.... Now look at Saturday gone, we barely was at about 800 (sic). So if persons come out based on the appointment system and have it streamlined, then we will be able to vaccinate persons...but if they come in droves, they have to be prepared to wait," she asserted, responding to the concern posed by Morning Agenda host Sanjay Lewis.
Dr. Ennis said vaccine access points are being increased.
