Vauxhall High teachers protest after colleague injured by student

By Kimone Witter

Teachers at Vauxhall High in Kingston staged a sit-in this morning to protest acts of violence by students against them.

The teachers, dressed in black, called for the intervention of the Jamaica Teachers' Association and the police to put an end to the violence.

One teacher shared with Radio Jamaica News that an incident between a male student and a female teacher triggered today's sit-in.

She said the teacher attempted to take a pair of scissors from the student after he expressed that he wanted to harm another student.

During a tussle, the teacher was wounded in the face.

She received medical treatment.
