Vendors affected by fire at Ocho Rios market in March yet to be compensated

Vendors who lost goods after fire razed eight shops in the Ocho Rios market in March are yet to be compensated by the St. Ann Municipal Corporation.

The municipal corporation is responsible for the operation of the shops.

One of the affected vendors told Radio Jamaica News that there have been several meetings with representatives of the municipal corporation, however no agreement was reached.

Michael Belnavis, Councillor for the Ocho Rios Division, says he has been advocating for each vendor to receive $50,000 compensation.

The vendors are calling for Mayor Sydney Stewart to honour the corporation's obligation, especially with the Christmas season approaching.
