Vere Tech teacher and parent opt for Mediation in bid to resolve matters arising from school fight

Attorney at Law Charles Benbow, representing Vere Technical High School teacher Messa Biggs

The Vere Technical High School teacher and the parent at the centre of an assault at the school are heading to mediation, in an effort to have the matter resolved.

The teacher, Messa Biggs, was charged with malicious destruction of property and assault occasioning bodily harm. The parent was also charged with assault.

The charges stem from an altercation on May 28 between the teacher and the parent over a child's schoolbag that was confiscated by the educator, reportedly as punishment for unruly behaviour.

When they appeared in the Clarendon Parish Court on Friday, the parties informed the judge that they were willing to engage in alternative dispute resolution to arrive at an amicable solution.

Attorney at Law Charles Benbow, who is representing the teacher, told Radio Jamaica News that both sides are to return to court on September 2 to provide an update on the mediation efforts.
