Water restrictions announced for some NWC customers in Corporate Area

By Halshane Burke

The National Water Commission (NWC) says it will begin regulating supply to customers served by the Constant Spring facility as of Monday.

The water agency says, with a significant fall in river inflows, demand for water threatens to deplete storage levels at a very fast rate.

As at Wednesday, the storage level at Hermitage Dam, which serves the Constant Spring treatment plant, stood at 71.4 per cent or 281.1 million gallons.

The Mona Reservoir, on the other hand, is at 74.2 per cent or 600.3 million gallons.

The NWC says the current drought has left it no choice but to implement the supply restrictions to ensure predictable and equitable delivery of water as it manages affected sources.

Areas below the Ministry of Justice along Constant Spring Road down to the Cross Roads area, including sections of Molynes Road between Half Way Tree and Washington Boulevard, Waltham Park Road, and Half Way Tree Road will receive their supply from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Those locations above the Ministry of Justice, including sections of Molynes Road, Perkins Boulevard, Havendale, Meadowbrook, Queensborough, Queensbury, Sections of Patrick City, sections of Duhaney Park and Pembroke Hall will receive their supply from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.

The NWC adds that there will also be close monitoring of the storage level at Mona Reservoir, at which regulation might become necessary if it gets down to 65 per cent.
