The re-introduction of boxing in schools will take centre stage for the Jamaica Boxing Board in 2016 according to its President Stephen ‘Bomber’ Jones.
The sport was a part of the school curriculum more than 20 years ago and Jones says they have key partners, who will ensure the programme returns on solid footing.
“The mandate of the boxing board is to build from the grassroots and we know that the biggest avenue to do that will be in schools. We have the group Pride For Peace, the JDF and Youth Rise on board and they are all part of the youth development push that we have. We want to ensure that it’s not just about boxing but the overall development of the student athletes,” said Jones.
