Jamaican swimmers increase medal tally at Carifta Games

Jamaica's swimmers had increased their overall medal tally to 21, eight gold, six silver and seven bronze at the Carifta Swimming Championships in the Bahamas.

On Monday's penultimate day the Jamaican team set two championship records winning two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

The team of Zaneta Alvaranga, Paige Lewis, Joshua Alleyne and Nathaniel Thomas held off a spirited challenge from the Bahamas to take the gold medal in the 11-12 mixed medley in 4 minutes, 10.28 seconds.

The 15-17 girls continued their dominant performance by the  team of Britney Williams, Angara Sinclair, Bryanna Renuart and Annabella Lyn, saw them winning the 800 metre freestyle relay in a new national and Carfita record of 8 minutes, 50.53 seconds for their third gold medal of the championship.

In the 50 metre breaststroke Cameron Brown added another breaststroke silver medal to his 2017 Carifta tally after taking the silver in the 200 metre event in a personal best time of 31.43 seconds. Alvaranga won silver in the girls' 11-12 100 metre freestyle in a personal best 1 minute, 01.25.

Alvaranga's teammate Emily McDonald won silver in the 13-14 girls' equivalent in a personal best time of 59.28 seconds.

Meanwhile, in the 11-12 boys 100 metre freestyle Nathaniel Thomas won bronze in a personal best time of 59.45 seconds. Annabella Lyn also won bronze in the 15-17 girls 100 metre freestyle in a personal best time of 59.28 seconds. The championships will end on Tuesday night.
