Women's Cricket League resumes after 5 year break

Voice of Women's Cricket League Organizing Committee member Dorothy Hobson

Five years after the last playing of a national women's cricket league, the competition will make a reentry on the local calendar this weekend. It was confirmed at Friday's launch at Sabina Park that six teams will contest the 2015 championship, including Westmoreland, who captured the title during the last tournament in 2010.

Hotel four seasons has again partnered with the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) with a sponsorship of $1.5 million with the winner taking home $250,000.

Westmoreland will begin their quest for the title against DW People at Paradise Park. Melbourne host St Ann at Courtney Walsh Drive, while Portland battle St Elizabeth at Lynch Park.

Former West Indies player and Jamaica captain Dorothy Hobson is one of the main persons behind the rebirth of the female cricket league.

“They are going to be playing a round robin format and at the end of the fifth round, the team that has the most point will be declared the winner. There are provisions if there is a tie such as the team that has won the most matches or the head to head contests and so on,” said Hobson.
