BOJ's balance sheet brushes $1.4 trillion in September

The Bank of Jamaica's balance sheet climbed to nearly $1.4 trillion in September this year, compared with $1.2 trillion last year.

This was mainly due to an increase in its foreign assets to $1.3 trillion from $993 billion last year.

This is after it purchased US$541 million of the US$1 billion borrowed by the Government of Jamaica in September of this year.

The bank's local assets also jumped to $254 billion in September this year from $243 billion in September last year.

This was mainly due to an increase in the money it lent to members of the banking system, which rose to $7 billion in September this year from $2.8 billion in September of last year.

The bank's other assets surged to $33 billion from $25 billion last year.
