Cruise ships will return to Port Royal in coming months

Port Royal Cruise Port Manager Heather Kuepfer
Cruise ships will resume making calls to Port Royal in the months ahead.

That's according to Port Royal Cruise Port Manager Heather Kuepfer.

The facility welcomed its first cruise ship in January 2020, but since the COVID-19 pandemic, business has been slow.

"During COVID time, we had a huge problem at Port Royal because everything just shut down. The first ships we were supposed to get, we were unable to receive the guests. But now we are getting ready. November, December, January through April, we do have ships coming over there."

Ms. Kuepfer said various attractions will be on offering to visitors.

"We're offering a variety of programmes from coffee plantation to Bob Marley, to scenic, dub club - just different options for the people, and I think it's gonna be huge," she said.

The port manager added that downtown Kingston and sections of St. Andrew will also benefit from the increased traffic at the ports.

"The more we can get guests out into the community, the more that stigma of Kingston being a bad place or a scary place, it will go away. And it'll start to be known as a tourist destination. You'll find more tourists than business. Right now, more business is done over there than tourists. So it's coming," sehe promised.
