Duolingo lays off 10% of contract workers

The language learning application, Duolingo has laid off approximately 10 per cent of its contract workers in the United States.

The company says it aims to rely more on Artificial Intelligence - AI, to generate more content for its users.

CNN reports that the company did not lay off full time employees.

Duolingo says it is making attempts to find alternative jobs for those who have been let go. 

The company is one of the latest to use AI to optimize business processes and reduce staff costs.

According to a survey done in November by a website for job seekers called Resume Builders, 37 per cent of companies say AI replaced workers in 2023

44 per cent say the technology will lead to layoffs this year.
