Guyana announces $200,000 cash grant to every household

The Guyana government is pumping millions of dollars into the country's economy, with each household to receive a one-off cash grant of GY$200,000, or roughly US$1,000.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali made the announcement on Thursday, during a special address to the Parliament of Guyana.

In a report from Newsroom Guyana, he said distribution of the grant is expected to begin instantly.

The President said the cash grant is part of the People's Progressive Party Civic government's aim to reduce disparities in the country, guaranteeing that people have more disposable income.

Altogether, about GY$60 billion will be infused into the economy through this cash grant initiative.
