Jamaica spent less money on the import of goods from CARICOM for January to October 2023.
STATIN says goods coming in from the region were valued at US$375.9 million, down from the US$553.1 million spent for the corresponding period in 2022.
Lower imports of food, mineral fuels and chemicals were the main drivers of the decline.
Spending on food imports from CARICOM fell to US$153.5 million, when compared with the us$155.3 million spent in the comparable period in 2022.
Imports of Mineral Fuels fell by 66 per cent, to US$96.7 million.
For January to October 2022, US$281.6 million was spent to bring in these goods.
Expenditure on the import of chemicals was valued at US$26.9 million, 12.2% less than the US$30.7 million spent in 2022.
