Jamaican finance minister Dr. Nigel Clarke set to become IMF's deputy managing director in groundbreaking appointment

Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, announced today to the Executive Board her proposal to appoint Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke to the position of Deputy Managing Director.
 
The appointment, a first for any citizen of the Caribbean or Central America, will take effect on October 31. 
 
The managing director is the third-highest-ranking official at the global financial agency.
 
Dr Clarke has been Jamaica's Minister of Finance and Public Service and a Member of Parliament since March 2018 and has been instrumental in national reforms.
